The Treatment of Our National Leader

From "Wall Street Journal"
By Jeffrey Shapiro

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush. The proposition is only one example of the classless disrespect many Americans have shown the president.

According to recent Gallup polls, the president's average approval rating is below 30% -- down from his 90% approval in the wake of 9/11. Mr. Bush has endured relentless attacks from the left while facing abandonment from the right.

This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust.
"

Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.

The president's original Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers alarmed Republicans, while his final nomination of Samuel Alito angered Democrats. His solutions to reform the immigration system alienated traditional conservatives, while his refusal to retreat in Iraq has enraged liberals who have unrealistic expectations about the challenges we face there.

It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.

Yet it should seem obvious that many of our country's current problems either existed long before Mr. Bush ever came to office, or are beyond his control. Perhaps if Americans stopped being so divisive, and congressional leaders came together to work with the president on some of these problems, he would actually have had a fighting chance of solving them.

Like the president said in his 2004 victory speech, "We have one country, one Constitution and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America.
"
In Opinion Journal Today

To be sure, Mr. Bush is not completely alone. His low approval ratings put him in the good company of former Democratic President Harry S. Truman, whose own approval rating sank to 22% shortly before he left office. Despite Mr. Truman's low numbers, a 2005 Wall Street Journal poll found that he was ranked the seventh most popular president in history.

Just as Americans have gained perspective on how challenging Truman's presidency was in the wake of World War II, our country will recognize the hardship President Bush faced these past eight years -- and how extraordinary it was that he accomplished what he did in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Mr. Shapiro is an investigative reporter and lawyer who previously interned with John F. Kerry's legal team during the presidential election in 2004.

Halloween Pics

Anna is now 16 days from turning 2! I can't believe it! Right now I'm so tired, though, that I think I'm going to pass out, so I'm really aiming for the short post here. ;)

Anna as Elmo!!!!!!!! (Next year we're choosing a costume with wings and a wand. Poor girl kept being called "Mr. Elmo" and "He" all night... *sigh* It's the hair... people just can't fathom a two year old girl with barely any hair lol.)

College

I've been considering returning to college lately. I think I need to do something more active with my life. My mind always has to be focused on something and I've been going crazy without college this past year and a half.

Life has been busy, though. We've been working to get our school debt paid off, which it will be in the next month, so we can return. I can't wait. I'm looking into a Radiology & Ultrasound Technology major, which is something I've been interested in for quite a while. I think in the meantime, though, I'll sneak in a few psychology and writing classes--maybe a history class or two. I love all of those fields/focuses. We'll see.

Our computer is fixed. I can't remember what the problem was, but it's running in Safe Mode now, so it isn't having that issue, but we will have to purchase some new hardware to remedy the problem.

Halloween is coming up. Anna will be Elmo!

Anna will be two soon! We're having a Spongebob party! Goodness knows she loves that yellow sponge!

23 Months & Comp Virus

Anna is 23 months old today! Only one more month until she turns two!

Right now our computer has a virus on it, so I'm not too sure how often I'll be able to be online, so bear with me.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Pumpkin Farm Photos

We had a great time at the farm yesterday. They had a lot of goodies. A little place where you can pet animals, a fun house thingy, a tour, etc.

Update on Baby Sara

I was just reminded that I haven't updated on Baby Sara in a while. Well, Sara is doing well. Crawling, babbling, etc. and acting like she should--healthy!

However, Sara's mom, Jessica, was arrested. They raised the fifty thousand dollars bond so she could go home to her children. She has a court date set for Monday (if I remember right). Please keep them in prayer!!!

Goin' Pumpkin Huntin'

We were going to go to the pumpkin farm today, but it turns out they're only open for business from Thursday til Sunday. We're actually going to the Roloff Farm, it's actually not too far from where Paul works. I don't know if you know what that is? It's the farm owned by the Roloffs from the show Little People Big World. I'm excited about that. They have a huge old west town, pumpkins, other goodies that Anna will love (and me!). So I will be sure to upload those ASAP and put them up after we go. It'll be so much fun. Last year was a blast. Anna was so little! She was wearing 12 month clothes then! Now she wears some 2T. It's really amazing how fast babies grow. Next year will she be wearing 4T? I guess we'll see.

Anyhow, here's a cute little graphic:

Happy Birthday ME

We're back and feeling better thank goodness! Anna was better days ago. As usual, she was sick days shorter than I was hahaha. Go figure. I think it's the boob. ;)

Anyhow, my 24th birthday is creeping up. In fact, it's tomorrow! Whew! I can't believe it. Paul works Sunday, though, so on Monday we're going to go to a pumpkin farm and spend time together as a family (my request). I can't wait. It'll be so much fun and you can bet there'll be tons of pictures up!!!

And one more thing, after looking through blogs, I wanted to remind everyone that October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
This graphic rocks:

Flu =(

Flu, flu, go away. Come again some other day, although preferably never again.

Anna was sick from Saturday until yesterday, Monday. And now I'm sick. So sorry, if my blog has been a tad lonely this week. The good side is, that I just feel awful and haven't thrown up, just come close to it. Which is much better than actually throwing up. Poor Anna, though. It was so sad seeing her heave, then cry afterward. It was so sad. I'm so glad she's feeling better. I knew she was feeling better today because it didn't take long before she got into trouble lol. While she was sick, she wasn't naughty at all. She just slept all day and cried and vomited. But today she's been full of her usual curious and naughty energy. I'm glad she's doing better. :D

You're All I Want, All I Need, Everything!

Happy Sabbath, Everyone!!!

My First Born (So Far Only Born)

My 1st baby....

Thank you to Margie @ Gunning It/Chesapeake Ribbons for Tagging Me!

1. Were you married at the time? Yes

2. What were your reactions when you found out you were pregnant? I have to echo Margie's answer here. Scared and excited. :D

3. How old were you? 21 when I found out, 22 when she was born.

4. How did you find out you were pregnant? I knew almost immediately. I knew I was coming up on my period, but I was cramping (I usually never cramped except the first day) a week before it was due, during the time it was due, and about a week after. I tested at six days after it was due and there it was.

5. Who did you tell first? I think we called Paul's parents first.

6. Did you want to find out the sex? Yes

7. Due date? November 25th, 2006

8. Did you deliver early or late? Technically right on time, but 6 days before her due date on November 19th, 2006.

9. Did you have morning sickness? Oh yes. From the 6th week to the 17th week.

10. What did you crave? Apples!!!!!! Apple juice, apple sauce, apples cut up, apples in any way, really. That and a lot of fresh fruit. Good cravings, I guess. But apples were my vice.

11. Who irritated you the most? Hmmm, I think I'd have to say my dear and wonderful mother in law. (Not her fault, just my overprotective nature.)

12. What was your first child's sex? Girl

13. How many pounds did you gain throughout the pregnancy? Around 30-32 pounds or so.

14. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy? I was induced because my blood pressure kept spiking and Anna was due over Thanksgiving, so I didn't care. I was sick of being pregnant and wanted my OB there. Let's see, then the fun stuff: epidural didn't work, Anna was posterior, episiotomy, vacuum, then a negative reaction to the pain medication after she was born. Fun, fun, fun...

15. Where did you give birth? Providence Hospital (awesome hospitals btw!!!)

16. How many hours were you in labor? 12 wonderful, back-breaking, pitocin-induced hours of labor.

17. Who drove you to the hospital? My husband and MIL.

18. Who watched? My husband, Doctor, and some nurses. <--ditto

19. Was it vaginal or c-section? Vaginal, although it was very nearly a C-Section.

20. Did you take medicine to ease the pain? Unfortunately no. The epidural was about as effective as a dose of Tylenol... less effective, actually. I should've taken some Tylenol now that i think of it.

21. How much did your child weigh? 7 lb. 11 oz.

22. What did you name him/her? Anna Daisy

23. How old is your first born today? 22 Months Old

(I'll come back and tag 5 mommies as it's already almost midnight! If you'd like to play along, just comment and I'll make sure I link you.) :D

I'm tagging Rebekah from The Clark Family!

Newfound Talent

Anna's thing for the past few weeks is lining things up. For example, she went to the bag of potatoes and started to take them out one by one, then she lined them up, one next to the other along the floor. At the restaurant, she lined up grapes (halved) along the table, one next to the other. Then she has also found that lining up shoes is a fun thing to do, too. LOL.

She did something funny the other day. She had a Barbie in one hand (gift from grandma) and some other toy... I think it was the little Spongebob toy... in the other hand. She made them walk along the stool lol... so cute!... then she made this screaming sound, "Ahhhhh!" and made the toys fall off the stool!!! What a riot! LOL! She does the funniest things!
